Oral histories about Devils Tower incorporate tribal star knowledge. The Lakota constellation Mato Tipila (Bear's Lodge) shares the name of Devils Tower. The constellation Gemini with its main two stars Castor and Pollux are known to the Lokatas as Mato Tipila - Bear Lodge. When Gemini rises, it is on its side; but as it sets it falls perpendicular to the horizon, mirroring the shape of Devils Tower.
